The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, will apply for re -election as independent, opting for Democratic primaries only one day after a federal judge dismissed corruption charges against him.
“I have always put the people in New York before politics and the party, and I will always do it. I apply for mayor in the general elections because our city needs an independent leadership that understands working people,” Adams said in a Thursday morning in the morning in X.
The news occurs after a judge permanently dismissed the charges of bribery and electronic fraud against Adams.
