It has been 20 years since “Gray’s Anatomy” was released, and Ellen Pompeo still thinks that the program has permanence power.
The actor, who has a deep story with the program as his homonymous character, Meredith Gray, discussed the future of medical drama during a new appearance in “The Jennifer Hudson Show”.
When asked if fans can expect more than “Gray’s Anatomy” in the future, Pompeo had an encouraging response.
“I think sure, yes. I don’t think that program is over. I don’t know,” he reflected and then laughed during the April 2 episode of the interview program.
As for his own future in “Gray’s Anatomy”, Pompeo keeps the door open for additional appearances.
“I will always enter and leave. That is my home and I don’t think (my co -star, Debbie Allen) will let me go completely,” he said.
“Those are good news,” Hudson replied.
Pompeo was there at the beginning of “Gray’s Anatomy” when the program premiered for the first time in 2005. During the end of the mid 19 of the middle of the season in November 2022, his character announced his decision to relocate his family in Boston. A few months before, Variety reported that Pompeo was only going to appear in eight episodes of that season.
In February 2023, Pompeo stopped appearing as a regular series. Later he returned to the end of season 19.
When ABC launched a teaser of the season 20 in December 2023, fans were delighted to take a look at Pompeo. He had previously announced that he would make the occasional appearance and still make voices off for the show while working as executive producer.
While chatting with Hudson, Pompeo said he never expected the program to last 20 seasons when he first signed as Meredith Gray.
“(Fans) keep him alive. It’s his program really. They have taken it,” he said.
Hudson was curious to know what Pompeo’s husband thinks, Chris Ivery, in his “smoking” love scenes of the program, and his answer was simple: he does not see “Gray’s Anatomy.”
“This is how I got married so much,” he joked.
However, Pompeo’s daughter, Stella, has seen some seasons.
“He reaches a point where they arrive, I don’t know, maybe 10 or 11 and all classmates begin to see it. And then he says: ‘Mommy can I see it?’ And I can’t believe that sometimes 10 and 11 years old see the program because I know what was happening in those early years and still continues, I suppose, “he explained.
“Anyway, so, I’ve seen some seasons with her.”
