It is one thing to clarify during this year’s NHL playoffs: do not tell the Edmonton Oilers.
They recovered from a 2-0 series deficit to expel Los Angeles in six games in the first round. Then they opened the second round on Tuesday night establishing a league record with their fifth consecutive victory of playoffs in a single postseason.
Zach Hyman scored just above the right circle with 3:02 remaining in the third period to put Edmonton ahead forever in his 4-2 victory over the Las Vegas Golden Knights after being left behind 2-0.
“That is part of having a mature and older group,” said the oilers coach Kris Knoblauch. “The players have seen many, many good things and many bad things. In the playoffs, things fluctuate.
“There are many things that can emphasize the team. Whatever happens, I think we handle it very well tonight.”
Vegas, who had only seven shots on the door during the last two periods, lost a playoff game in regulation after leading at least two goals for the first time. The Golden Knights have 47-4 in general in the postseason with that type of advantage.
Game 2 is Thursday night in Las Vegas.
“We will review it and prepare for Thursday night’s game,” said Mark Stone, who scored both goals from Las Vegas. “It will be great for us.”
Leon Draisaitl had a goal and an assistance for the oilers, and Corey Perry and Connor Brown scored the other goals. Evan Bouchard and Connor McDavid had two assists. McDavid now has four consecutive sheets with at least 10 assists for the fourth best in the history of the League. Calvin Pickard was barely tested after the first period and ended with 15 shots.
“We have experience to win games in many different ways, many non -traditional forms,” said Hyman. “Every time you get a victory, it’s a great day. We have to take what we did in the second and third and do it in the first.”
After losing the first two games in the series against the Kings of Los Angeles, the Edmonton Oilers won the next four consecutive. The team is going to the second round after obtaining each victory with Calvin Pickard for backup on the network. Travis Mcewan breaks down game 6.
Stone tied the franchise record of Jonathan Marchesault with 36 goals for his career in Las Vegas. He also extended his goal streak to three games. Adin Hill made 24 rescues.
Both higher lines full of stars were delivered in the first period, with stone scoring twice, the first in a two -minute power game. The Higher Unit of Edmonton cut the deficit in half with 3:34 remaining when Perry Deked Hill for an open network with McDavid and Draisaitl receive assists in the work.
None of the teams scored in the second period even though the Oilers beat Vegas 12-1. The Golden Knights had never had less than two goal shots in a period of regulatory playoffs.
Edmonton did not miss a chance at the beginning of the third, drawing the score 57 seconds when Draisaitl shot the boards and the hill.
Hyman, who previously in the turn took a stick on Kaedan Korczak’s face, broke the tie in the final minutes and Brown sealed the 1:16 victory later.
The Defense of the Golden Knights, Alex Pietrangelo, did not play due to a disease, which allowed Korczak to make his first career in the postseason. Vegas was also without Pavel Dorofeyev, who led the team with 35 goals this season, for the second consecutive game due to an unleashed injury. Coach Bruce Cassidy described him as day by day.
Hurricanes 2, Capitals 1 (OT)
In another part of the NHL playoff action on Tuesday night, Jaccob Slavin scored in extra time, Frederik Andersen made 13 saves on his return from an injury and Carolina’s hurricanes beat the Washington Capitals 2-1 in game 1 of his second round playoff series.
Logan Stankoven began the return with his goal in the middle of the third period of a turnover, surpassing Logan Thompson after the wandering pass of Aliaksei protas of the Washington right skate his Washington’s partner, Alex Alexeyev, put the album on the stick of Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
After not being able to score in a power play at the end of the regulation, Slavin scored 3:06 in OT from just inside the blue line to give Carolina the advantage of the series.
