NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met on Saturday michael waltzUS president-elect Donald Trump’s candidate for National Security Advisorduring his official visit to the United States from December 24 to 29.
“Nice to meet Rep. Michael Waltz tonight,” Jaishankar said in a post on X.
He added: “I enjoyed a wide-ranging conversation about our bilateral partnership as well as current global issues. We look forward to working with him.”
Waltz, 50, will take over as national security adviser from Jake Sullivan on Jan. 20, when Trump is sworn in as the 47th president of the United States. Waltz, a three-term congressman from Florida’s 6th Congressional District, is the Republican co-chair of the Indian Congress Caucusthe largest country-specific caucus in the US House of Representatives.
He co-led a Congress delegation to India in August last year and attended Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort. He has also been involved in various India-related legislations in the House. Trump announced Waltz’s appointment as national security adviser on November 12.
Earlier, Jaishankar completed a two-day conference with the Indian Embassy and Consuls General in Washington, DC. He posted on X: “Confident from the deliberations that the continued growth of the India-US partnership will accelerate.”
