The missing eagle was born in a popular eagle couple in southern California died in a recent winter storm, the non -profit organization that owns and operates the Eagles nest cameras, he said on Saturday.
The missing Eaglet of Jackie and Shadow “failed to cross the severe winter storm,” said Jenny Voisard, media manager and websites for Friends of Big Bear Valley, in a statement.
More than 2 feet of snow fell into the area during the storm, said Voisard.
Jackie and Shadow, whose eggs trip is broadcast every year, put three eggs at the end of January, according to Big Bear Lake. The three hatched in the first week of March.
The nest video on Thursday afternoon showed the three eagles fed by their parents. However, on Friday and Saturday, only two baby birds appeared in the nest in live broadcast.
The third Eaglet died “some time after the three were observed together being fed” at 6 pm on Thursday, Voisard said.
Voisard said that it is not known what happened or why the baby bird died, noting that the view of the nest is still partially clogged by the melted snow. He also said that it is unknown which chick died because they were all close.
Jackie and Shadow continued to feed their young on Saturday, Voisard said.
“Days like these try us as humans because we fear uncertainty and the unknown,” Voisard said. “Our hope is that seeing Jackie and the shadow persevere and work to move forward, brings some comfort and peace. We are reminded again that nature is wild and without script.”
