Strong demand to buy tickets for Sunday’s record-breaking $2 million Gray Cup 50/50 drawing overwhelmed the lottery vendor and led to duplicate purchases for some customers, the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation says.
The drawing of winning numbers is delayed until the vendor determines which tickets are legitimate and the 50/50 match is reconciled, the foundation said in a statement.
The 50/50 reached $2,005,107 at the end of Sunday night’s Gray Cup match, with the eventual winner taking home half of the pot. It is the largest single-game 50/50 split in CFL history.
“The increase in traffic caused a small percentage of shoppers to be charged multiple times,” the foundation said.
A “small percentage” of people who purchased tickets were affected and all duplicate charges will be refunded, the foundation said.
It is not yet known how duplicate orders will affect the total prize amount or when the drawing will take place.
The Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation is the team’s charity that supports education, health and amateur football initiatives in the province.
