The duplicate of Mondo de Sweden broke his own world jump with pole jumping with an authorization of 6.29 meters at the Hungarian Grand Prize meeting in Budapest on Tuesday, the 13th time he has established a new world brand while continuing to challenge gravity.
The Olympic double champion maintained his tradition of improving his previous record in a centimeter, with his second attempt at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial that reviews the brand he established in Stockholm in June.
Duplantis had looked a little out of his best way, losing his first attempt of 6.11 and, after Emmanouil Karalis of Greece retired after having failed twice at the same height, the Swedish had the bar to make his usual attempt of world record.
The two -year world champion was not successful in his first attempt and, while taking the bar slightly in his second effort, Duplantis looked up almost disbelief to see that he had reached a new height again in the discipline he dominates.
“I love Hungary a lot. The track is very good, I love the crowd, I would like to return, thank you,” said Duplantis.
Duplantis, who won his second world title in the same stadium in 2023, ran directly to the crowd to celebrate with his partner Desire Inglander and his family.
On Monday, Duplantis lost most of the press conference before the Budapest meeting, apologizing when he was late, saying that he had a lot of work to do in his time management.
“I think I will have to compensate tomorrow with a great leap,” Duplantis said.
He remained duly faithful to his word for the delight of the multitude of Budapest, and now 15 centimeters has been shot than Sergey Bubka, who Duplantis once described as “mythological.”
The Duplantis born in the United States first broke the world record in 2020 in Poland, with its 6.17 jump exceeding the previous record established by the French Renaud Lavillenie six years earlier.
Lavillenie had defeated the best Bubka jump of 6.14, which had remained for almost 20 years, but Duplantis has taken the sport to another level and on Saturday competes in Silesia Diamond League, where he also broke the world record last year.
