Dozens of flights at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) have been canceled or delayed as the agency that provides air traffic control struggles with what they say are “personnel resource restrictions.”
Nav Canada said in a publication on social networks that passengers must verify the status of their flights with their airlines before heading to YVR.
The agency said earlier this year that there was a serious shortage of air traffic controllers that help administer 18 million square kilometers of the Canadian airspace.
Nav Canada said in a statement that a temporary traffic management initiative was implemented on Wednesday at Vancouver airport, “related to unplanned absences.”

Vancouver International Airport said in a statement that travelers can expect delays, cancellations or changes in their flights, which can also affect connection flights.
From 2 pm on Wednesday, more than 60 flights that leave were listed as canceled or delayed, which affects approximately one third of all scheduled flights. Similar numbers were shown for arrivals.
