‘Don’t know what they are afraid of’: Rahul Gandhi doubles down on ‘gagged in Lok Sabha’ claim | India News

Nueva Delhi: The opposition leader in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday doubled his attack against the speaker Om Birla and said that “he would not be allowed to speak.” His comment had attracted the criticism of the speaker who had advised Rahul to continue Parliamentary decorum.
“You won’t be allowed to talk … I don’t know what they are afraid,” he said.

The leader of Congress had said Wednesday that he wanted to talk about Kumbh, unemployment, but the speaker Om Birla did not allow him to speak.
“The Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) Ji talked about Maha Kumbh, and also wanted to talk about it. He wanted to say that the Kumbh Mela was very good. He also wanted to raise the unemployment problem, but he was not allowed. I don’t know the speaker’s thinking, but the truth is not allowed to speak,” Rahul said.
“I don’t know what is happening. I asked him to let me talk, but he simply escaped. This is not the way to direct the house,” Gandhi said. “It is a convention that the opposition leader has time to speak. Every time I stand up, I stop. I did nothing bad, I was sitting silent. Here, there is no place for democracy. There is only place for the government,” he added.
The speaker had responded by saying that Rahul and the opposition should maintain parliamentary decorum.
“It is expected that you defend the high standards of the Chamber. There have been several cases in which the behavior of the parliamentarians has reached these standards. I hope that the opposition leader will follow the rules,” said Birla.
