The federal prosecutor Maurene Comey, the daughter of the former director of the FBI James Comey, was fired by the Department of Justice on Wednesday, according to four sources familiar with the matter.
It wasn’t clear why Comey was fired. One of the sources said that article II of the Constitution, which establishes the president’s executive branch, was summoned in the dismissal of Comey from the United States prosecutor’s office for the Southern District of New York.
Nick Biase, spokesman for the Southern District of New York, declined to comment.
