Dr. Salvador Plasencia is expected to be guilty of the charges derived from Matthew Perry’s accidental overdose in 2023 in a series of cases aimed at those who supplied quantities of ketamine to the actor “friends”.
Plasencia agreed last month to declare himself guilty of four positions to distribute ketamine and has a formal hearing on the matter in the Federal Court on Wednesday. According to an agreement with prosecutors, Plasencia faces up to 40 years in prison and three years of supervised liberation.
Plasencia also faces a fine of at least $ 2 million, according to the agreement.
Perry was found dead at his home in Pacific Palisades on October 28, 2023, in what the Los Angeles Forensic Doctor’s office declared an accident of the acute effects of ketamine.
The “Friends” actor was subject to ketamine infusion therapy to treat depression and anxiety, but an investigation found that Perry was looking for the drug illegally outside his treatment.
Kenneth Iwamasa, Perry’s personal assistant, was one of the five people accused in the death of the actor. Iwamasa declared himself guilty in 2024 and the judicial documents in his case revealed that Perry was experiencing an out of control addiction.
The former assistant told the authorities that Perry was introduced in Plasencia weeks before the actor died, and that the doctor sold Perry both liquid ketamine and ketamine pills. He also taught Iwamasa how to inject Perry, said the assistant, despite the fact that Iwamasa had no medical training.
Iwamasa’s guilt agreement declared that Perry paid plasence up to $ 55,000 for the drug in the month before his death.
Federal prosecutors alleged in judicial documents that Plasencia told a patient that Perry was “too far and spiral in his addiction”, but continued selling drugs anyway. Text messages between Plasencia and Mark Chávez, a former doctor who declared himself guilty in the case of Perry, showed men to make fun of how much money they could get from the actor for ketamine.
“I wonder how much this fool will pay,” said Plasencia. “Let’s find out.”
