Bengaluru:
The vice minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar, alleged Friday that the MLA of the city in the political parties are “chanting” the government about Bengaluru’s garbage crisis.
Referring to them as “blackclacks” in the Legislative Council, he said that these MLAs demand 800 million rupees in development funds.
In addition, he claimed that there is a “great mafia” that controls the solid waste management of the city.
The attached CM was answering the question of MLC M Nagaraju about the issue of garbage in the city.
Nagaraju said that many garbage transport vehicles are stranded on the roads due to the lack of waste removal facilities. He also expressed concern that waste has not been eliminated from the city.
“I have seen reports on the problem of garbage in the media. There is a large mafia. Garbage contractors have formed a poster and cited 85 percent higher prices than standard rates. Now, they have approached the Court, preventing us from taking measures,” said DK Shivakumar, who is the Minister of Development of Bengaluru, to the Council.
In addition, he said that legal obstacles are delaying government efforts to rationalize solid waste management.
DK Shivakumar revealed that the government had planned to divide the trash elimination work in the city into four packages and transport waste 50 km away, but the initiative has stagnated.
“Our Bengaluru’s MLA are chanting us. I don’t want to name them. I tell you the fact. They are from all parties. They want 800 million rupees as development funds. I can’t take their names here.” He told the Council that during the last three days the vehicles were stranded in Mahadevapura in the city.
By pointing out that he wanted to take the garbage at least 50 km from the city, the deputy CM appealed to the MLA to help BBMP identify 100 acres of land in Kolar, Nelalangala, Kanakapura Road or next to a forest land.
“I (the Government) will buy it (land) and get a permanent solution. I asked the minister of industries for 100 land acres, which was wondered if the garbage was thrown into the industries. DK Shivakumar said.
Deputy CM said the experiment to generate energy has failed.
“He had been in Hyderabad and Chennai. All electric (units) have failed. The only option is gas. There is the opportunity to generate gas. I had seen it in three or four places,” he said.
Two locations have been identified for the removal of waste: one is with the authorities of the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor (NICE) and another in Doddaballapura.
According to him, there are technologies to manage the removal of waste efficiently without causing inconvenience to anyone or contaminating groundwater through leachate.
DK Shivakumar pointed out that all governments have not been able to find a human solution for the problem of garbage.
“What was done in the past was not done from the human perspective. Siddaramaiah and even the BJP had made promises, but we have finally failed. We have to make a respectful agreement for the elimination of garbage,” he said.
He told the house that he would give a detailed response on the subject on Monday.
