A spokesman for the National Security Department suggested on Saturday that the Trump Administration could arrest the Democrats of the House of Representatives involved in an incident in a Detention Center for the Immigration Control and Customs Control of New Jersey on Friday and accused them of assaulting ICE officers.
“I think we should inform the spectators that more will come,” said DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin, CNN on Saturday morning.
“In fact, we have images of the body chamber of some of these members of the Congress that will assault our ice agents, including the body that attacks the body an official ice woman,” McLaughlin said.
His comments were in response to a question by Victor Blackwell of CNN, who asked if others were arrested on Friday in addition to the mayor of Newark Ras Baraka, who was accused of raid.
When asked if that meant that a member of the Congress could be arrested in relation to Friday’s events, McLaughlin told Blackwell: “This is a continuous investigation, and that is definitely on the table.”
He added that ICE was in possession of video tests that document the incident.
Later, on Saturday, McLaughlin published a video about X that shows chaos outside the detention center, writing: “We will not tolerate the assault against our application agents of the ICE law by members of the congress or any other person.”
Their comments occurred one day after three members of the Congress, representatives Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rob Menéndez and Lammonica Mciver, all the New Jersey Democrats, visited the detention center of the Hall of Delaney to carry out supervision, according to statements of two of the legislators.
“As members of the Congress, we have the legal right to carry out supervision in any installation of the DHS without prior notice, as we have already done twice this year. Throughout each step of this visit, ICE tried to intimidate all those involved and prevent our ability to perform supervision,” Menéndez said in a statement on Friday. “This is not like anything I have seen before, and I am surprised and disturbed that something like this happened in our community.”
And McIver said in a statement that legislators found “contempt, lack of respect and aggression of ice.”
“From mistreating the members of Congress to arrest the mayor of the largest city in our state, there is no today’s version that does not show the shameless abuse of power of the Trump administration,” he added.
None of the three members of the Congress mentioned seeing any type of violence against ICE officers during their visit to the installation.
And in a publication on X on Saturday, Watson Coleman denied McLaughlin’s accusations, writing: “The notion that I or any of my federal federal officers criticized” is absurd. DHS is lying because they know that their agents were out of place. “
“They have to resort to lies because their behavior is indefensible for merits. They can threaten us all who want, but their lies are still lies. We will not be intimidated,” the congresswoman added.
A DHS spokesman sent NBC News to the United States prosecutor for the New Jersey district to comment. A spokesman for the US prosecutor, Alina Haba, did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
Menéndez and McIver spokesmen also immediately responded to a request for comments on McLaughlin’s comments.
Baraka appeared in CNN directly after McLaughlin and called his “ridiculous” assault accusations.
“I am waiting for a video to show,” he added.
Baraka said Watson Coleman, 80, is an older woman, “who probably couldn’t raise any of them.”
“None of those people attacked any officer,” Baraka added.
The Mayor of Newark also denied the charges that he was arrested on Friday and told Blackwell: “I wasn’t moving at all. I mean, we are in court, so we will argue that in court.”
