Denny’s is the last restaurant chain nationwide in announcing surcharges for meals that include eggs in response to a national shortage that has sent us prices towards heaven.
In a statement, the breakfast giant said that individual markets and restaurants would be responsible for deciding the price of surcharge. He refused to cite any example of prices, describing it as a “fluid situation.”
“Denny’s is still committed to providing our guests delicious meals that love the value they expect,” he said. “We do our best to plan in advance with our suppliers in items such as eggs to minimize the volatility of the impact market in our costs and menu prices.”
Denny’s follows Waffle House among the main food suppliers that announce egg surcharges. Many local media reports have also found individual restaurants that add surcharges in recent weeks.
USDA data shows that a dozen eggs now cost more than $ 7 on average and have jumped another 10% in last week to a new historical maximum as the avian flu continues to spread in many of the country’s poultry farms.
