Senator Tina Smith, D-minn., Announced Thursday that she will not apply for re-election and, on the other hand, will retire after the end of her mandate in 2026.
In a brief video posted on social networks, Smith told his supporters: “I wanted to listen directly to me that I have decided not to run for re -election to the United States Senate in 2026”.
Smith, 66, was first appointed to the Senate in 2017 to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of the then democratic senator to Franken following the accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior. Smith won a special election the following year and then another election in 2020 to meet a complete period of six years.
She has been a long time in Minnesota’s policy for a long time before joining the Senate, serving as the state governor of the State and, before that, as a great assistant of key democratic politicians.
