Delta flight returns to Boston due to ‘smoky odor’ detected in cabin after takeoff

A Delta flight that had just taken off from Boston Logan International Airport had to return quickly after a “smoked smell” was detected in the cabin shortly after takeoff, said the airline.

The plane landed safely on Sunday morning and none of the 92 people on board was injured, Delta said.

Delta Flight 1398 was on its way to the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in an Airbus A220, according to the airline.

The flight had to turn around after the crew reported smoke on both the flight cover and in the cabin, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The plane returned to Boston around 9:35 am on Sunday.

The airline said it declared an emergency to obtain priority of air traffic control.

Delta said he is “working to take passengers on his trip in the fastest and fastest possible way.”

FAA is investigating the matter.
