NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has formed several teams to investigate camps allegedly collecting personal information of women in the name of the AAP government’s ‘Mahila Samman Yojna’ scheme, according to a senior official’s statement on Sunday.
This action follows the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK SaxenaDirective for an investigation into private individuals allegedly collecting personal information of women for a scheme proposed by the AAP in Delhi.
“There are 15 police districts in Delhi. We have directed senior officers to form teams and investigate the entire matter properly. The teams will coordinate and work under the close supervision of DCPs,” the senior police officer said.
The probe was launched after Congress leader and candidate for New Delhi Assembly seat Sandeep Dikshit expressed his concern during his meeting with Saxena.
The LG Principal Secretary sent a letter to the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner saying, “The Hon’ble Lt. Governor has requested that the Chief Secretary conduct an inquiry through the Divisional Commissioner into the collection of personal data and forms.” by non-governmental people.”
The communication directed the commissioner of police to direct field officers to take legal action against anyone found violating the privacy of citizens by collecting personal information on the pretext of benefit enrolment.
Reports suggest that AAP volunteers are conducting registrations for the scheme.
On December 25, Congress leader Dikshit discussed his concerns over the Mahila Samman Yojana with the LG. The scheme, which promises to provide Rs 2,100 to women in Delhi, is the AAP’s key plank for the upcoming assembly elections.
“Any party can promise anything. If they said they would give Rs 2,100 if they win the election, there was no problem. But they said a Rs 1,000 scheme is being implemented and they will increase it to Rs 2,100. forms for the plan,” said the candidate.
The Congress complaint came a day after a couple of departments in the Delhi government clarified that there was no such plan and distanced themselves from the AAP’s promises.
