NEW DELHI: The Bhartiya Janata Party on Saturday announced its second list of candidates for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, less than a month before the polling date. The list, consisting of a total of 29 names, came after the first list, which also included 29 candidates.
The BJP’s central election committee (CEC) finalized the second list of candidates at a high-level meeting at the party headquarters. Key leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP chief JP Nadda and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh participated in the meeting.
The second list includes candidates like Kapil Mishra, who will contest from Karawal Nagar constituency, and Neelam Pahalwan, who has been given the ticket from Najafgarh. Interestingly, the incumbent Najafgarh MLA, who recently left the Aam Aadmi Party to join the BJP, has been selected from Bijwasan, according to the first list.
In Shakur Basti, BJP’s Karnail Singh will take on AAP heavyweight and former minister Satyendra Jain in what promises to be a closely watched contest.

The BJP’s first list, announced earlier this month, included candidates like Parvesh Verma, Kailash Gahlot and Arvinder Singh Lovely.
Delhi assembly elections 2025 will be held on February 5 and the results will be announced on February 8. The elections cover all 70 constituencies as the term of the current assembly ends on February 23.
Candidates have until January 17 to submit their nominations, which will be reviewed on January 18. The deadline to withdraw the candidacy is January 20.
