A delay in the audit process of state institutions has worried at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Pakistan General Auditor (AGP) Ajmal Gondal said a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday.
The development occurs when discussions began this week between the IMF and Pakistan for the first biannual review of the installation of extended funds of $ 7 billion to address the vulnerabilities of governance and corruption.
While heading to today’s meeting, Agp Gondal revealed that the IMF had expressed its concerns about almost 600,000 pending audit paras.
“The IMF has demanded an early agreement of institutions for the audit of institutions,” Gondal said, added that there were around 500,000 to 600,000 pending audit paras related to ministries and institutions.
He continued that despite the orders of Parliament, he had not been appointed head of an internal accountant. “The financial audit system is defective due to the non -implementation of the rules.
“The secretaries and financial directors of the institutions are not clearing their audits,” he said. “There are only financial directors in 15 institutions, and none of them has an internal chief accountant.”
He reiterated that there were no internal audit systems in institutions.
“The number of pending audit cases with the PAC has increased to more than 30,000,” said AGP.
The PAC sought details of ministries and institutions within a month.
In August of last year, the AGP had expressed serious concerns about the deteriorated financial affairs of the country, which have resulted in less than 4 percent of the budget of more than RS38.67 billion available for socio -economic services.
In addition, around 93 % of supplementary subsidies worth RS8TR had not been approved by Parliament and remained not spent, which represents a loss of public resources.
