Depression on the Northeast Sea of Arabia has intensified in a “Shakhti” cyclonic storm and now lay on about 360 km south of Karachi, according to a notification issued by the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD) on Friday.
“It is likely to move to the West-Northwest initially and it is likely to intensify even more towards a severe cyclonic storm over the next 24 hours. From then on, it is likely to move west and southwest and reach the center of the northern sea of Arabia,” he added.
Under its influence, the wind storm and the rain of light to the moderate intensity in Tharparker, Uumerkot, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, Hyderabad, Matiari and the districts of Jamshoro, as well as in isolated places in the Karachi division, as PMD, not the notification, are expected.
The warm and dry climate is likely to prevail elsewhere in the province.
The notification stated that the conditions of the sea are likely to remain “rough to very rough” with “cool winds from 40 to 50 bursts of 55 km/hour near the coast of Sindh.”
He also advised fishermen not to venture into the deep sea until Sunday. The MET department also warned that wind storms and rays can “damage weak structures such as ceilings and walls of Kacha houses (temporary homes), electric posts, billboards, vehicles and solar panels.”
According to the notification, the climate in the Karachi division is expected to remain “mainly cloudy and humid with the possibilities of isolated drizzine” on Saturday, with a maximum temperature between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius.
Moisture is expected to be between 75 and 85 percent in the morning and 60 to 70 percent at night.
Yesterday, the weather notice said between October 4 and 6, the wet currents of Bengal Bay and the North Sea of Arabia are expected to be strengthened.
