A new death has been confirmed in relation to the forest fires of January, which increases the number of deaths to 30, the department of examiner of the Los Angeles County said Wednesday.
The last death was related to the Eaton fire after remains were found in Boston Street 900 block in Altadena, said the Forensic Doctor’s office. That individual was called “unidentified DOE No. 203”.
With the new death, Eaton’s fire took a total of 18 lives and 12 were taken by the fire of Palisades.
The fires devastated the region, displacing thousands of residents in Altadena and Pacific Palisades and together, consuming more than 37,000 acres. Both communities continue to rebuild after their loss.
Researchers are still working to determine what caused both fires.
