At least two more people died in a rain -related incident on Punjab on Saturday, taking the death number of the province during the last four days to 14, according to rescue officials and the provincial authority of Disaster Management (PDMA).
The monsoon rains throughout the region offer a breath of summer heat and are vital for agriculture and food safety. Climate -related incidents are common during the season, but experts say that climate change is increasing their frequency and severity.
Two people died while four were injured in an incident of collapse of the roof reported at 3:20 am in the Nagar Abbas area of the city of Shahdara de Lahore, he said today in a statement.
He pointed out that the house was one floor and the roof was made of mud. The bodies were taken to the Shahdara hospital, where they also took some of the injured, while other injured were taken to the Mayo Hospital.
Separate, eight children were among the 12 dead, while another 39 were injured in several rain -related incidents in Punjab since Wednesday, according to a PDMA report issued today.
From Wednesday until Friday, 25 incidents were reported in several cities, which increased to 28 today, said a statement from the PDMA spokesman.
According to the report, most cases involved wall and roof collapses due to torrential rains, which represent nine out of 12 lives lost during the four -day period.
In Kasur, two children died from a roof collapse while two lost their lives in a wall collapse incident. A child each died in ceiling collapse incidents in Okara, Bahawalnagar and Faisalabad.
In Wazirabad, a collapsed wall killed a man and a child, along with hurting a woman and another minor.
In Jhelum, according to the PDMA report, two men “drowned in a Nullah of rainwater.” A recent report explained that a charger Rickshaw fell into a storm drain on a flooded road.
The PDMA report also mentioned a lightning incident in Khanewal that took the life of a man.
Other districts where victims were reported were Mandi Bahauddin, Sahiwal, Chinast, Finern, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib. Separately, a cow perished in Rahim Yar Khan after a tree fell due to a wind storm.
Irfan Ali Kathia, the general director of the PDMA, issued directives to provide medical assistance to injured and financial help to their relatives.
In a statement, he also asked citizens to avoid non -essential trips during inclement weather conditions.
“Do not live in ruins houses,” he advised. “Take care to children [and] Do not let them approach the drains of rainwater, electrical cables and posts. “
The rains of the monsoon have begun in Punjab and the first spell will continue until July 1, the PDMA said earlier this week, adding that the rains with strong winds and thunderstorms are predicted in most of the districts of the province.
Punjab is expected to receive 25 percent more monsoon rains this year, Kathia said Wednesday.
