NEW DELHI: Madhya Pradesh Prime Minister Mohan Yadav On Saturday he said that his state would make provisions to guarantee capital punishment for those involved in religious conversions. The leader of Congress, Arif Masood, reacted to this and asked the CM to clarify what was forced conversion.
“Our government will not tolerate conversion and misconduct. For criminals or those who are involved in religious conversion, we will make sure they obtain the death penalty,” said the BJP leader, speaking on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Demanding a clarification about this, Masood said: “First, the main minister should clarify what forced conversion is.”
He criticized CM for the lack of young people in the state and said: “In addition, there are missing girls in Bhopal. Recently, an Itkhedi girl disappeared, and her family has been in trouble during the last three days. He (CM Yadav) talks about a strict action, but still, he cannot find her and the defendant. If the action begins to the measure, then we talk about the decision;
The law of freedom of religion of Madhya Pradesh, 2021, criminalizes illegal religious conversions through misrepresentation, strength, undue influence, coercion or fraudulent means. The law prescribes strict sanctions, including imprisonment and fines, for those convicted of violating their provisions.
