The assistant coach of the Dallas Mavericks was arrested by the Dallas Police on Sunday morning.
Darrell Armstrong, 56, was arrested as a suspect for an aggravated assault position. It is not in jail, according to DPD.
The Dallas Police responded to a call in block 1000 of Ross Avenue at 3:45 am the preliminary investigation determined that Armstrong and the victim were in a discussion when he hit the victim with a gun and threatened to shoot, according to the report Police
Police said Armstrong and the victim knew each other. It was not clear if Armstrong has a lawyer who could comment on his name.
Dallas Fire Rescue responded and treated the victim at the scene, according to the Police Department.
The Dallas Mavericks said they are aware of an incident that involves a member of their staff and placed that person in administrative suspension pending the result of legal procedures.
There is an ongoing investigation into the incident, said Dallas Police.
Armstrong spent two seasons with the Mavericks at the end of his career as a 14-year-old player and was a backup owner in the 2005-06 team that arrived at the NBA finals, losing to Miami. He joined the Dallas coaching staff in 2008-09.
