A five-year crew died on Monday after an army helicopter crashed into the city of Chilas of the Diamer District in Gilgit-Baltistan, authorities said.
DIAMER SENIOR POLICE SENIOR (SSP) Abdul Hameed, in a statement, said: “According to the reports, five victims were produced due to [helicopter] crash.”
Confirmed to Dawn.com that the helicopter belonged to the Army of Pakistan.
The helicopter was performing an airstrip in a recently proposed heliport, said the SSP Hameed. The Diamer police and the rescue teams had reached the site of the incident and began the evacuation, added the officer.
While the official said that the cause of the accident had not yet been determined, GB government spokesman Faizullah Faraq cited a “technical failure.”
Earlier this month, a rescue helicopter crashed in the Baja district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing two pilots and three crew members. The helicopter was sent with supplies after sudden floods in the region.
