A policeman was shot dead on Sunday in the Ranchor line of Karachi about what seemed to be a personal enmity, police said.
According to a statement issued by the Karachi Police Office (KPO) today, agent Muhammad Ayub, published at the Chakiwara Police Station, was shot dead after the unidentified suspects opened fire near Ghousia Biryani.
Later, the agent was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds and additional investigation was being carried out, said the KPO.
Karachi Police Inspector (AIGP) Javed Alam Odho took a strict notice of the police murder and sought an immediate report from the Police Superintendent (SSP).
While expressing condolences to the disconsolate family, the AIGP issued instructions to take effective measures for the immediate arrest of suspects and transparent investigation into the incident.
He also assured the family all possible cooperation.
Talking with Dawn.comThe deputy inspector of the Police (DIG) of the South, Syed Asad Raza, said that the deceased was transferred to the Karachi Civil Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.
“The police are reviewing CCTV and taking accounts of eyewitness,” said Dig Raza, stating that the initial investigation said it was due to resistance to a robbery, however, another perspective was that it was an attack directed on a personal enemy.
In February, a police officer was shot dead by assailants unidentified in the city’s mangopopir area. In a separate incident, another policeman was killed by personal enmity in Karachi.
A policeman was also shot dead in the Mauripur area in October last year for a real estate dispute.
