The Canada Conservative Party has dropped a Quebec candidate after the liberal candidate and survivor of Polytechnic shots, Nathalie Provost, online criticized harshly.
Simon Payette will no longer apply for the CPC at the Berthier: Maskinongé Riding, a party spokesman confirmed in an email.
“The behavior of this individual is completely inappropriate and cannot be excused,” says Sam Lilly. “It will not be a candidate.”
In one of several publications and comments on social networks, Payette accused Provost, a defender of the strictest weapons laws, for using the tragedy to “grease the palms of the extremists against weapons.”
The Berthier, Maskinongé Riding is just northeast of Montreal, while Provost is postulated for the choices in the Châteauguay, says Jardins-de-Napierville.
In an interview with Radio-Canada on Friday, Payette defended himself.
“Everyone is shouting aloud that there are lobbyists for firearms, but there are also lobbyists on the other side and that nobody is talking about that,” Payette said.
This is at least the fifth candidate that the party has fallen as the elections of April 28 are approaching, and the second in Quebec this week.
On Tuesday, Stefan Marquis announced in X that he is no longer a candidate in the driving of Laurier-Saine-Marie due to the recent publications he made on the social media platform.
The CPC confirmed that Marquis was no longer a candidate, but refused to provide a reason.
Marquis has made several publications and comments related to conspiracy theories on topics such as COVID-19, Vaccines, the World Economic Forum and the invasion of Ukraine.
