Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said Thursday that the Simla Agreement between India and Pakistan was no longer applicable after the first violated the Indo Water Treaty (IWT).
India maintained the IWT in suspense after the additional deterioration in relations between the two countries after the attack of the pahalgama on April 22 in Cashmira busy. In retaliation, Pakistan decided that he would exercise the right to conclude all bilateral agreements with India, including, among others, the Simla Agreement, in suspense. “The holiness of the Simla agreement has been eliminated due to the actions of India,” added the Minister of Defense, saying that his conditions, as for India and Pakistan to solve problems bilaterally, were no longer applicable.
“The agreement as a whole after this episode of war now has no value.”
Later, a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told him Dawn.com: “Until now a formal decision on the abrogation of any bilateral agreement with India has not been made.”

In relation to Kashmir’s dispute, Simla’s agreement declared that “the basic problems and the causes of conflict that have attributed relations between the two countries during the last 25 years will be resolved by peaceful means.” He also forced both countries to discuss the modalities and arrangements for peace and lasting normalization.
However, Pakistan argues that India violated Simla’s agreement in 2019 when he unilaterally revoked article 370, altering the state of Jammu and Kashmir occupied.
