Ottawa says he has banned the largest contractor who worked in the Arrivecan application by holding contracts or real estate agreements with the government for seven years.
Public Services and Prosement Canada has announced that GC Strategies Inc. has been considered “not eligible” after an evaluation of the supplier’s behavior.
Last year, the Department suspended the security status of GC Strategies, which according to the General Auditor received more than $ 19 million for the project.
This movement followed a previous decision to suspend the company of acquisition processes within the department. The government also prohibited two other companies that contributed to the Arrivecan project, Dalian Enterprises and Coradix Technology Consulting, to participate in acquisition opportunities.
The Federal Government launched the application in April 2020 as a way of tracking health and contact information for people entering Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to digitize customs and immigration statements.
A report by the General Auditor of Canada, Karen Hogan, discovered that the maintenance of government records was poor and their dependence on external contractors allowed the cost of the project to shoot at $ 60 million.
The first Arrivecan contract was initially valued in just $ 2.35 million.
On Tuesday, Hogan delivers an audit focused on whether the contracts granted and payments made to GC Strategies and other incorporated companies were “in accordance with the applicable policy instruments” and had a good value for money.
Public services and acquisitions of Canada says that the Government continues to take measures to “strengthen the integrity of the acquisition process.”

GC Strategies partner, Kristian Firth, received the order to appear before the Bar Association of the Commons Chamber last year after refusing to answer questions at a committee hearing.
Firth was interrogated by parliamentarians for two hours, although the liberals chose to be interrogated after the note of a doctor provided to the secretary of the house recommended that it not appear due to mental health problems.
The GC strategies did not develop or administer the Arrivecan application, but the federal government commissioned him to gather a team to complete some parts of the project.
