Coldplay leader Chris Martin says he didn’t want to insult Toronto’s new concert place when he called him a “strange stadium in the middle of nowhere.”
Martin issued the clarification on Friday during the third of the four concerts in the newly built Rogers Stadium, which is on the outskirts of the city.
He says that “he never criticized” the stadium and was only intended to thank the concert attendees for making the walk through the old lands of the vision airport.
When he went up the stage for the first time on Monday, he thanked fans for supporting “traffic and trip and trains and waiting” to get to the place.
The concert attendees had complained about the bad control of the crowd in the 50,000 capacity stadium when he opened for the first time last month, and some said it was a nuisance leaving the place even after the first Coldplay show.
In Friday’s show, Martin said he only intended to thank people with enduring the discomfort of getting to the place, not insulting the people who built the stadium.
“I have never criticized this stadium that was beautifully, kindly built to play. I don’t think I say bad. I am very grateful to have somewhere where we can hang out with all of you,” he said.
