The Sindh Prime Minister Murad Ali Shah officially inaugurated the renewed National Bank stadium for the next Champions Trophy in the midst of festivities.
The president of the Cricket Board of Pakistan (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, had said last month that the stadium would be reopened by President Asif Ali Zardari on February 11. .
The event was attended by the president of PCB and several other dignitaries.
CM Murad reaffirmed his government’s commitment to promote sports in the city, saying: “The Sindh government is dedicated to providing first level facilities for sports activities in the city.”
He recalled the previous efforts of the Government of Sindh, pointing out the update of the National Stadium in 2018 to ensure that it was fully equipped for the parties of the Super League of Pakistan (PSL).
He emphasized Karachi’s passion for Cricket and said his government would continue to support the sport at all levels.
“We will not leave stone without moving in sports activities reviving in Karachi,” he emphasized.
We expect the ICC champions trophy, the CM expressed its confidence in the Crickt team, stating: “We hope that our Shaheens offer outstanding performance.”
“Winning and losing are part of the game, but we must always point to a fighting spirit in the field,” he said.
A great celebration with music, fireworks and festivities took place after the opening ceremony in front of the stadium full of people.
The National Bank Stadium will organize three Champions Trophy games.
Separately, the match between Pakistan and South Africa in the Tri-Nation series will be played at the National Bank Stadium before Friday’s final, also scheduled in Karachi.
