The Sindh Prime Minister Murad Ali Shah strongly criticized the Punjab government for opening the Taunsa-Panjnad (TP) link channel, qualifying it as “irresponsible.”
The Sindh government wrote on Tuesday to the authority of the Indo River System (IRSA) about the “transfer” of water from the Indo River after the channel opened on Tuesday. The Director of Irrigation Sindh Regulation wrote requesting that the transfer of water from the Indo River to the Jhelum-Chenabat system be stopped.
When inaugurating the Integral Cancer Center at the University of Health Sciences Dow in Karachi, the prime minister criticized the opening of the channel, adding that Punjab was “weakening his own case, while ours is strengthening,” said a press release.
“We currently face a 50 percent water shortage. In such a situation, open the TP link channel was irresponsible,” he said. “We will not rest until there is a formal advertisement to close the channel project,” he said.
On February 15, Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz, and the head of the Army staff, the general also opened the ambitious Cholistan project to water the lands of South Punjab in the middle of a public uproar and strong reserves in Sindh. The Sindh Assembly also approved a unanimous resolution against the project in March.
The last months have seen the national and civil parties protests against the proposed channel project.
In February, Awami Tehreek organized a 12 -kilometer march in Karachi to protest against the project, while the PPP in March organized demonstrations and demonstrations in Sindh against the new channels.
At the beginning of April, the Great Democratic Alliance and PTI organized a sitting outside the Karachi Press Club and led a demonstration to the Empress market against the proposed construction of the channels.
On Sunday, the protests at the national level were carried out against corporate agriculture, the construction of six channels, the lack of support price to wheat and the privatization of the Storage Corporation and Agricultural Services of Pakistan.

According to the press release, the opening ceremony for the Cancer Center attended the president of the Commission for Higher Education Sindh Tariq Rafi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Dow, Dr. Saeed Qureshi, medical professionals, provincial secretaries, government officials and others.
“Today is a historic day for the people of Sindh,” Murad said. “This cancer center will greatly benefit patients suffering from this potentially deadly disease.”
When addressing the meeting, the CM said the center would transform cancer care in the province by providing a avant -garde and affordable treatment to patients throughout the region, the press release added.
He announced that three more advanced machines had been installed in the facilities and appealed to the philanthropists and the private sector to support the initiative.
