The CIA has offered the so -called purchases to its workforce, said a CIA spokesman, the latest Trump administration movement to review and climb to the federal government.
The eight -month payment and benefits offer is similar to deferred renunciation offers proposed to employees of other federal agencies. But in the CIA, some employees, including those who handle high priority tasks, will not be eligible for offer.
“Director [John] Ratcliffe is moving rapidly to ensure that the CIA workforce responds to the national security priorities of the administration, ”said the spokesman by email.
During his confirmation hearing, Ratcliffe promised to maintain politics out of the decisions involving intelligence and said he would not use loyalty tests as a basis to hire or fire CIA staff.
“These movements are part of a holistic strategy to infuse the agency with renewed energy, provide opportunities for rising leaders to arise and position the CIA better to fulfill its mission,” said the spokesman for the CIA.
Federal unions and lawyers of employees, as well as democratic legislators, have warned federal workers not to accept offers, saying that they are legally doubtful and that Congress has not authorized funds for such sweeping packages.
The size of the CIA workforce, as in other intelligence agencies, has always been closely kept and remains classified.
Ratcliffe, former member of the Texas Congress, who was director of National Intelligence of President Donald Trump for a while during his first term, was confirmed as CIA director on January 23.
