China hits back at Trump with 34% tariff on U.S. imports

Hong Kong – China announced a 34% tariff over all imports from the United States on Friday, increasing commercial tensions between the two largest economies in the world.

The measure occurred two days after President Donald Trump imposed the same rate on all Chinese imports that started from what he called reciprocal tariffs in a long list of US business partners.

Combined with 20% in other rates that Trump has imposed on Chinese products since he returned to office in January, the total rate of the United States on some Chinese products is at least 54%.

China’s rate on US goods enters into force next Thursday, authorities said. The new United States rate on Chinese products enters into force on Wednesday.
