Child killed, 5 injured after suspected drone hits KP’s South Waziristan: police – Pakistan

A child died and five others were injured after an alleged drone hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s district in southern Waziristan on Friday.

Wana Police spokesman, Habib Islam, said Dawn.com: “The attack took place after 11 am, as a result of which a child was killed while five people were injured.”

The Makin station house officer, Abdul Qadir Mehsud, also confirmed the drone attack and said Dawn.com The locals have established a date for June 23 to celebrate a jirga with the higher authorities with respect to the law and order, in which they have invited people who belong to all schools of thought.

KP MPA Asif Khan Mehsood said Dawn.com that the alleged incident involved a drone that “attacked the children of the school”, although it was not known if the drone was Pakistani or another country.

PTI MNA Zubair Khan Wazir strongly condemned the incident. “Aiming innocent schoolchildren is a deeply distressing and unforgivable act,” he said in a statement on social networks.

“This is a serious incident that guarantees thorough and impartial investigation so that perpetrators are taken before justice.”

The incident was also condemned by other politicians in the province, such as Afrasiab Khattak and Mohsin Dawar.

Last month, seven minors were among the 22 people injured in an alleged Quadcopter strike in Wana Tehsil.

The incident occurred within a fortnight after an alleged fall of quadcopter ammunition was charged the lives of four children and wounded another five in Mir Ali Tehsil of the North Wazirist district. The military clarified that the security forces were “falsely involved” in the incident and that it was carried out by the forbidden Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The locals there organized a sitting for more than a week with the victims’ agencies, demanding justice, before finally announcing on May 27 that they had ended their protest after reaching an agreement with the local administration.

In March, at least 11 people were killed in Mardan in what the locals insisted that it was a drone strike, but the authorities said it was an operation carried out against militants. According to the locals, the deceased were civilians, including women and children, who worked as shepherds.

An alleged drone attack in the Konrai Raghzai area of ​​the southern district of Waziristan, killed a person and wounded another three in September last year. While local sources confirmed the drone attack, there was no official confirmation of the drone strike.
