Austin, Texas – Xavier Worthy was released on Saturday after a District prosecutor in Texas declined to present charges against the open receiver of Kansas City chiefs after an arrest in which he had been accused of serious crime of domestic violence.
Williamson County District Prosecutor Shawn Dick, told Austin American-Statesman that his office had spoken with witnesses and was not accepting the case at this time. He also said that Worthy and his lawyers were cooperating completely with the investigation.
The records showed that Worthy had been arrested Friday by the deputies and held in the County prison accused of assault on a family or member of the home in which her breathing was prevented or suffocated in common terms. The online court list for the case was updated to “dismissed/rejected” later on Saturday.
Williamson County includes Austin parts, where Worthy played university football at the University of Texas.
In a statement, Worthy’s lawyers, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett said their client was innocent of the position against him. They said that the accusation was made by a woman who had been living in Worthy’s house, and that they had asked her to leave the house several times in the last two weeks “upon discovering his infidelity.”
“She has refused to vacate the residence and made a series of exorctive efforts before resorting to this unfounded accusation against Mr. Worthy,” said the declaration of lawyers. “The plaintiff further destroyed a room in the residence, he scratched Mr. Worthy’s face and started parts of his hair, from which there is photographic evidence. Worthy told the police at the time of the incident that he did not want to present charges against the plaintiff. “
The bosses told The Associated Press on Saturday that they were aware of the situation and that they were still collecting information.
According to Texas’s law, breathing to prevent means “intentionally, knowingly or recklessly the normal breathing or the circulation of the person’s blood by applying pressure to the throat or the neck of the person or blocking the nose or mouth of the person.”
Worthy was chosen by the Chiefs with the 28th General Selection in the Draft last year after establishing the fastest 40 -yard race record at the NFL Combine. He had a quick start scoring a couple of touchdowns in his NFL debut, and after a mid -season pause, he became the open receptor of the Chiefs while pursuing a third consecutive title of unprecedented Super Bowl.
Worthy finished with 59 trapped for 638 yards and six touchdowns while running 20 times for 104 yards and three more scores.
It was one of the few bright points for Chiefs in a 40-22 defeat against Philadelphia in the Super Bowl too. Worthy caught her eight goals for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Superdome in New Orleans.
The Chiefs came to trust partly due to an injury that ended the season in the open receptor Rashee Rice, which came from a brilliant rookie season. Rice caught 24 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns in four games before hurting.
Rice and another pilot, Theodore Knox, were involved in a high -speed car accident in March 2024 that triggered a chain reaction on a road in Dallas, near where he had played university football in SMU. RICE currently faces at least two civil lawsuits along with numerous criminal positions for his role in the wreck.
Rice delivered after the accident, and his lawyer, Texas Senator Royce West, said the open receiver admitted that he was driving the Lamborghini involved. Rice also published on social networks that he assumed responsibility for his role in the accident.
