A 39 -year -old woman from Charlottetown was accused of first degree murder for the death of her daughter, says the Charlottetown police.
Cassie Acorn’s son died at the IWK Health Center in Halifax three weeks ago “while the baby was being treated for injuries suffered during an incident in Charlottetown on March 16,” said the city’s police force in a press release on Wednesday night.
Police said after an investigation, Acorn was accused of first degree murder against section 229 (a) (II) and section 235 (1) of the Canada Criminal Code.
These sections describe crime as a guilty homicide that causes the death of another person, while intention to cause death or with the intention of causing bodily damage that the defendant knows that he probably causes death.
Acorn is in custody and is scheduled to appear at the PEI Supreme Court on Thursday.
