A trained professional would probably have used a gun that was not traceable, Hyche said.

“If I had a clean weapon, use gloves, without serial number, and leave it there, that will not really help the police,” Hyche added, who is now the police chief of Calera, Alabama. “And that is what I think a professional would have done it.”

Even so, even if someone carries it out without training, the objective murder would have required some planning measure, experts said.

“To find out where the best advantage was, you would have to know where the stage would be established,” Sweeowow said.
