Chairman Gilani vexed over PTI Senator Chaudhry’s non-production despite orders – Pakistan

The president of the Senate, Yousuf Raza Gilani, expressed on Saturday his disgust since only the Senator of PTI Aon Abbas Bappi was presented in Parliament, despite the fact that he also issued production orders for the imprisoned senator of PTI Ejaz Chaudhry, and sent the matter to the privileges committee.

President Gilani had issued production orders for Bappi and Chaudhry senators yesterday, instructing the authorities to guarantee their presence in the session of today’s Senate.

In a ruling issued today, Gilani declared: “It cannot be allowed that such contempt for the parliamentary authority persists without control, since it threatens the institutional integrity of the Senate and the broader democratic framework.

“Therefore, I consider the issue of non -implementation of production orders related to Senator Ejaz Chaudhry to the privilege committee for consideration and report,” he added.

When affirming that Senator Abbas was presented, Gilani ruled: “However, once again, the directives on Senator Ejaz Chaudhry have not been fulfilled, which is equivalent to breach of the president’s legal orders.”

The ruling also indicated that the disobedience of the orders of the president of the Senate constituted a “violation of privileges” according to rule 71 of the rules of procedure and business behavior in the 2012 Senate.

“This is not an unprecedented situation,” Gilani said, remembering that he was “forced” to send the matter to the privilege committee when a similar situation arose during his mandate as president of the National Assembly from October 1993 to February 1997.

“As president [of the] Senate, my only effort is to defend the supremacy of the parliamentarian, the rule of law and the constitutional dictates, ”he said.

Yesterday’s production order issued for Chaudhry, imprisoned in the Kot Lakhpat de Lahore prison, was the third. Neither of the two previous orders could be implemented.

In January, Gilani issued a production order for the PTI senator, which has been imprisoned for about 20 months, so that he could attend the Senate session on January 14. However, Chaudhry did not appear in the Senate session, where opposition legislators had posters with images of the missing senator.

During the session of the Senate on Thursday, PTI legislators had registered a strong protest when the opposition leader, Syed Shibli Faraz, raised the issue of Bappi arrest and the alleged abuse.

Subsequently, the Law Minister informed the upper house of Parliament that PTI’s senator had been arrested by the Bahawalpur police in a case recorded by the Punjab Wildlife Department of Punjab for illegally hunting from Chinkara deer in Cholistan.

At the beginning of his speech today, Bappi thanked Gilani for his “position of principles”, noting that the president of the Senate had said he did not preside over the procedures if both PTI senators did not occur before the camera of today’s chamber.

The PTI legislator also appreciated the Minister of Law Azam Nazeer tantar for his “position”, saying that “some of the difficulties and oppression” against him began to relax after that.

He recalled that a Senate session had been summoned for Thursday, but had other commitments planned before. Therefore, he had requested that Agenda No.14 must present to be postponed the next day.

“Maybe if I had attended the session, this incident [arrest] would not have taken place and I would be sitting here […] But it happened that he was at home that day, ”recalled PTI’s senator.

Bappi said around 20 people arrived home around 8:30 am on March 6. “First they broke my main door, then tied to all my domestic workers in one place,” he said.

Without appointing any agency to apply the law, the PTI senator said that a “joint operation” was carried out as his factory was also raided. He added that he was sleeping in his room with his wife when “they hit the door so hard that the lock broke and simply entered.”

Bappi said that their mobile phones were sought, but since he did not remember where he had kept them, the individuals had threatened to imprison their 16 -year -old son together with him if the devices were not delivered. However, his son was allowed to go once a domestic worker gave his mobile phones, he added.

Detailing his subsequent appearance in the Court, Bappi said he was later sent to a one -day preventive detention. Comparing the case against him with the elders filed against Fawad Chaudhry and Shehryar Afridi, he described the “FIR respectable” hunting charges.

PTI’s senator continued to say that his “guilt” was carrying out a campaign against inflation in southern Punjab, “staying loyal to [PTI Founder] Imran Khan ”, and raising his voice for imprisoned PTI leaders.

“These are my failures for which I have faced a punishment for two days and I could also face it in the future.”

In his ruling issued today, Gilani said that there had been no intimacy of the case against BAPPI, as provided in rule 79 of the rules of procedure and behavior of the business in the 2012 Senate, which reflects a “clear violation of the established parliamentary procedures and the one ignored by the institutional protocol.”
