Nueva Delhi: The Ministry of Railways in response to the heavy overcrowding during the maximum travel seasons plans to develop permanent waiting areas in 60 rail stations to administer the flow of passengers through the network, according to Ani sources.
The measure occurs after at least 18 people died and several others were injured in a stampede at the New Delhi train station on Saturday night. The incident occurred when a massive crowd met after the announcement of a special train for Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. In a matter of minutes, chaos exploded when the passengers advanced, which caused multiple victims and injuries.
Eye witnesses reported that the wave of the crowd was triggered by the delay of two trains, causing an unexpected influx of passengers. When people hastened to address the special train, the situation was uncontrolled, with some passengers passed out in the midst of falling in love. According to reports, this caused rumors of a stampede, even more intensifying panic.
With the growing concerns about the management of crowds in the main railway centers, the center is now working on the creation of designated retention zones to avoid such incidents in the future, Sources of ANI said.
