Nueva Delhi: The Government is waiting for a response from the family of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh regarding the monument proposed in his honor.
According to the sources on Tuesday, a plot adjacent to that designated for Pranab Mukherjee in Smriti Sthal It has been offered, with the government assigning RS 25 Lakh for the monument.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs had previously informed the Singh family about the decision and asked them to establish a trust, a necessary prerequisite for the allocation of public lands.
In January, government officials visited Rashtriya Smriti after announcing the commemorative plan. The members of the Singh family have been invited to inspect the proposed site, but they have not yet done so.
Rashtriya Smriti, located along the Yamuna riverbank, serves as a common site for the last rites and memorials of presidents, vice presidents and prime ministers.
Currently, it houses memorials for seven leaders, including former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee, PV Narasimha Rao, Chandra Shekhar and Ik Gujral. The remaining two available plots have now been destined for Manmohan Singh and Pranab Mukherjee.
Manmohan Singh, an unconditional of the Congress that played a key role in the economic liberalization of India as Minister of Finance in the Government of Narasimha Rao and also served as governor of RBI racing racing, died on December 26 at the age of 92 years.
