Nueva Delhi: The Central Research Office on Wednesday searches at the residence of former Chhattisgarh Prime Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
According to the officials, the investigating agency raided Baghel’s residences in Raipur and Bhilai, as well as in the residential premises of a senior police officer and a nearby associate of the former prime minister.
In reaction to the raids, Baghel suggested that the actions were taken to prevent a key meeting of the congress scheduled for April 8 and 9 at Ahmedabad.
Taking X, Baghel said: “Now the CBI has arrived today, today, former principal minister Bhupesh Baghel is scheduled to travel to Delhi for a meeting of the ‘Drafting Committee’ formed for the AICC meeting held in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) on April 8 and 9”.
“Even before that, the CBI has already reached its residences in Raipur and Bhilai,” he added.
This occurs days after the compliance address raided Baghel’s residence in relation to an alleged liquor scam.
The Central Research Agency seized approximately RS 30 Lakh in cash, using a counting machine, in the residence of the former prime minister.
The investigation was linked to an alleged liquor scam that the central agency believes that it caused a “mass loss” to the state treasure. The authorities claim that those involved in the liquor union had diverted around RS 2,161 million rupees through several schemes.
ED’s research has so far revealed that the liquor union operated between 2019 and 2022, generating a large number of illegal commissions through multiple methods. One of the forms was to collect bribes from the distillmen for each ‘case’ of liquor acquired by the state liquor body.
The alleged scam also involved the sale of country of state stores, which remained completely not accounted for. The Emergency Department believes that not a single rupe reached the state treasure, with all the money pocketed by the suspects of the union.
