Dunfee led from beginning to end, licking most of the field in the race of 50 men. He hit more than three minutes of his best previous moment.
He built an advantage of 30 seconds in his closest competitors for the 5K brand and made a world record of four minutes.
“It was well under rhythm, but then I lost a little time in the last seven kilometers,” Dunfee told World Athletics. “YO [then] He stressed me a little, but it was a dream come true.
“I am very proud to be on that winners plate here in Dudince.”
The German runner -up Christopher Linke ended three minutes behind the Canadian. Jose Doctor of Mexico was third at 2:24:41.
Kawano Masatora of Japan had had the record since last October since a bronze meeting in Takahata, Japan.
It is the second record in so many months for Dunfee, who also broke the US brand in the 20 km men on February 16 in Adelaida, Australia (1:17:39).
The three times Olympic won the first Canadian Olympic medal in the 50 km event with bronze in Tokyo games in 2021.
That 50K is no longer part of the Olympic Games, which has 20k male and female races and a mixed relay.
