Canada won the opening tournament of the Canadian shield on Tuesday night despite losing to African champion Ivory Coast 5-4 in a criminal shooting.
The game went to a shooting after it ended knotted 0-0 after 90 minutes.
Canadian men in 30 ended with four points, one ahead of No. 86 New Zealand and No. 25 of Ukraine and two ahead of No. 41 Ivory Coast.
The victory was secured for Canada just by arriving at the shooting, since the night would end at at least four points, with two points for a shooting victory and one for a shooting loss, while no one else had more than three. A victory in regulation was worth three points in the tournament.
Jonathan David, Mathieu Chainhere, Derek Cornelius and Ismael Kone scored for Canada in the shooting. Badra Ali Sangare arrested Tani Oluwaseyi and Luc de Fougerolles.

Fougerolles Luc kick from Canada fell short, and Mohamed Diomande’s goal gave Ivory Coast a 5-4 victory over Canada on penalties on Tuesday in Toronto.
Clement Akpa, Jereme Boga, Emmanuel Latte Lath, Franck Kessie and Mohamed Diomande scored for Ivory Coast in the shooting, beating Dayne St. Clair. Mary Gbane lost the goal.
Ukraine defeated New Zealand 2-1 in the early match on Tuesday, leaving both teams at 1-1-0 with three points. That result meant that Ivory Coast had to win by two goals to take the trophy.
Ivory Coast currently occupies the fifth in Africa for FIFA, behind No. 12 Morocco, No. 19 Senegal, No. 32 Egypt and No. 36 Algeria. But the elephants are the reigning champions of the Cup of Nations of Africa and have been classified until number 12 in the world.
Ivory Coast seemed dangerous, comfortably moving the ball while the battery resonated in the section of its followers in BMO Field. The ivory goalkeeper had little to do in the first half in addition to seeing his team from afar.
Both teams achieved only one shot in the target before the break with Canada never really found their rhythm. The second half was chippy with many stops and begins before a crowd announced 18,489 in BMO Field.
As promised, the coach of Canada, Jesse Marsch, presented an almost different alignment with only the center of Cornelius that retained his place in the Ukraine that began 11. Veteran striker Cyle Larin served as a captain for the first time.
Daniel Jebbison, a 21 -year -old striker with Bournemouth from England, won his third limit in his first start. The end of Vancouver Whitecaps, Jayden Nelson, also made his first beginning, winning his seventh cap.
It was a more experienced holder group, with a combined 369 count in the game compared to 241 for start 11 against Ukraine. Larin, Jonathan Osorio and Richie Larkea represented 226 of the total of Tuesday.
The 85th Cap de Osorio transferred him to third place in the list of all time of Canadian men behind Julian de Guzmán (89) and Atiba Hutchinson (105). The Canadian midfielder Stephen Eustaquio was honored before the game for winning his number 50 against Ukraine.
St. Clair began in the goal. The Minnesota United Guard is tied in the leadership of the MLs in bleached with eight and occupies the second place in an average goals at 0.88.

Jonathan David scored the first two goals on his way to a 4-2 Canadian victory over Ukraine in the Canadian Shield tournament from BMO Field.
Joel Waterman put the ball on the Gol of the Ivory Coast in the sixth minute just to see that the Flag out of play rises. At the other extreme, St. Clair stopped a free kick of 21 minutes whipped by Nicolas Pepe, previously from the Arsenal of England and now with the Villarreal of Spain.
The best canad possibilities of the first half came out of a free kick and two corners when the clock decreased, but every time the final ball was out of target.
Three of the four of Canada, Cornelius, Waterman and Sam Adekugbe were on yellow cards for the 48th minute.
A Pepe without marking wasted a glorious opportunity in the 52nd minute when his header was out of Target. Shortly after, Waterman made a Tackle Salvador to stop Pepe.
David and Tajon Buchanan, who represented three goals against Ukraine, left the bank in the 76th minute while Canada was looking for a goal.
Adekugbe had to receive help from the field in the 83rd minute, favoring his leg after going down.
Canada had never faced the Ivory Coast. The last time he faced an African team was in the World Cup in Qatar in December 2022 when he lost 2-1 against Morocco in his final game in the group stage.
Ivory Coast’s team is based on club players in Belgium, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey.
Canada goes to the Concacaf Gold Cup, opening against No. 95 Honduras on June 17 in Vancouver before completing the group B game in Houston against No. 90 Curacao and No. 81 El Salvador on June 21 and 24, respectively.
Canada entered Tuesday’s game with a 7-4-5 record under Marsch, and one of those ties became a defeat for the shooting against Uruguay and another in a shooting victory over Venezuela. His previous three games in Canada, against Ukraine, Surinam and Panama, were all victories.
Ivory Coast returns to the World Cup classification game in September. He currently leads Group F in the African qualification with a 5-0-1 record, a point ahead of No. 79 gabon in the group of six countries that also includes the No. 140 Burundi, No. 111 Kenya, No. 126 Gambia and the Seychelles classified with 203.
