The president of the United States House, Mike Johnson, will be in the Ottawa region this week for a meeting of his teammates from most G7 and Ukraine countries.
The president of the Chamber of the Commons, Francis Scareggia, will receive his counterparts from Thursday to Saturday as part of the Presidency of the G7 of Canada.
His office says that officials will meet “in the region of the national capital” to discuss the challenges faced by legislators worldwide and the importance of parliamentary diplomacy.
The meeting agenda includes online misinformation, political polarization and violence against legislators.
Canada has chosen to invite the president of the Parliament of Ukraine, since the approach of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to end the Russian war in Ukraine, has alarmed European leaders.
The Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anita Anand, says that she will also receive her counterparts, including the Secretary of State of the United States Marco Rubio, “in Ontario this fall.”
