Quetta: the “struggle to safeguard the rights” of the Baluchis will continue despite the forced disappearances, said by the BYC in their speeches at a public meeting in Dalbandin on Saturday.
“We will no longer tolerate the looting of Baluchistan’s resources,” said one of the speakers at the event, organized by the Baluchi Yekjehti committee to commemorate what he called the ‘Day of the Baluchi genocide’.
The speakers said that on January 25 it was “a sad day” for the Baluchis, since it remembers the alleged discovery of tombs containing up to 12 bodies in the Totak area of Khuzdar in 2014. The speakers alleged that Baluchistan’s resources were being exploited with impunity and every time the Baluchis talked about their rights, they faced forced disappearances and received “mutilated bodies” of their loved ones.
“The Byc will become the voice of the oppressed throughout Baluchistan and will do everything possible to guarantee their rights,” said Dr. Mahrang.
He said it was a mistake to think that the byc only struggled to recover the disappeared. “It is a platform for the protection of each and every one of the rights of the Baluchis.”
The BYC leader said that the Baluchis “face humiliation in the control posts,” “Death squads terrorize them at all times” and lack educational facilities.
Dr. Mahrang said the Reko DIQ project was delivered to Barrick Gold Company without generating confidence in the people of Chagai. “The locals do not get anything from the Saindak project.”
Byc leaders alleged that, on the one hand, Chagai’s gold was used to build a meter in Lahore, but, on the other, the population of Baluchistan did not even have access to basic health care.
They asked the Baluchis to “awaken to defend their rights,” their land and their culture. “The Baluchis will no longer remain silent because we have become a strong nation,” said a speaker.
A large number of people, including women and children, attended the public meeting. Dalbandin went into mass from remote areas of the province.
