British boxer Ricky Hatton dies at age 46 – Sport

British boxer Ricky Hatton died at the age of 46, BBC reported Sunday.

The former world champion Hatton won titles by lightweight and Welter weight, before retiring in 2012. He had returned to return for an event in Dubai at the end of this year.

Greater Manchester police said in a statement that a body had been found on Sunday morning in a direction in Hyde in the north of the English city.

“Death is not being treated as a suspicious,” police spokesman said.

Hatton had 45 victories in 48 fighting during his career, but in the years after the withdrawal, he said he had tried to commit suicide several times and had been open about his struggle with depression, drink and drugs.

“I was leaving the rails with my drink and that took me to drugs. It was like a fugitive train,” he told BBC Radio in 2016.

Hatton’s best performance occurred in 2005 when he arrested Kostya Tszyu Australian to add the lightweight title of the IBF to the WBU belt he already had.

He had a perfect 43-0 record until he was stunned by Floyd Mayweather Jr in Las Vegas in 2007 and never the same again.
