NEW DELHI: Patna police detained Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor early on Monday and cleared the protest site at Gandhi Maidan. Kishor has been on an indefinite hunger strike, demanding action against the alleged leak of BPSC exams.
The Jan Suraaj founder began his fast unto death on January 2 in solidarity with students demanding cancellation of the Bihar Public Service Commission exam due to reported irregularities.
Police officers transferred Kishor to an ambulance during his arrest. Prior to this, he announced plans to file a petition in the high court on January 7 over BPSC irregularities.
“It is not a matter of decision for us whether we will continue with this (protest) or not. We will continue doing what we are doing now, there will be no change in it… We (Jan Suraaj Party) will file a petition in the High Court on day 7,” said Prashant Kishor.
On Sunday, Kishor joined students protesting at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. He asked RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav to lead the protest, citing Yadav’s position as an opposition leader.
“He (Tejashwi Yadav) is a tall leader. He is also the LoP. He should have led the protests. I have been telling them to lead the protest. We will step aside. He said he would come to Gandhi Maidan with five lakh people should be talked about. of people (and their problems). Politics can happen at any time. We don’t have any party banner here,” Prashant Kishor said.
“This is not a dharna. This is the passion of the people of Bihar to improve their conditions, to ensure a better future. In this cold weather, some are singing and you can see people from all over sitting here. I am tired of responding to “Look around and, if you can, locate the dressing table. We will sleep here too,” he added.
On Saturday, Tejashwi Yadav criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for exploiting the BPSC protest for political gains.
He claimed that BJP supporters had infiltrated the student-led protest, claiming that participants were effectively operating as an extension of the BJP.
“It is being completely politicized. We believe that the people of Bihar will have to recognize these people who are the ‘B’ team of the BJP and who are trying to crush this independent movement. This is highly condemnable,” he said.
Regarding the controversy over Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor’s boudoir, Yadav said, “An attempt was made to end the movement. The actors sit in the boudoir and the producer and director make them sit, we know who it is the producer, who the director is. And why they forced the actor to sit down.
Students are demanding cancellation of the Combined Integrated Competitive Examination (Preliminary) (CCE) 2024, administered by the BPSC on December 13, following allegations of distribution of question papers before the exam.
