Ahead of the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing it of failing to deliver on key election promises and “destroying” the city.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters on Sunday, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted 10 unfulfilled promises by the AAP, including cleaning the Yamuna river and making Delhi pollution-free. “Arvind Kejriwal spreads lies and makes no effort to fulfill the promises made to the voters,” Puri said.
He accused the Delhi Chief Minister of abandoning his image of simplicity by building a “sheesh mahal” for himself. “Kejriwal entered politics stating that he would not accept bungalows and would travel in his Wagon R, but his actions prove otherwise,” Puri charged.
The BJP leader also criticized the AAP government in Punjab, alleging that it had failed to curb the drug menace. “Instead of cracking down on drugs, the drug lords in Punjab gained more energy under the AAP’s watch,” he said, mocking the party’s advertisements promoting a ‘nasha mukt’ Punjab.
The BJP is looking to improve its performance in Delhi, where it won just three seats in 2015 and eight in 2020, while the AAP won 67 and 62 seats respectively in the last two Assembly elections. Votes will be counted on February 8.
