‘BJP cutting thumb of youth like Ekalavya’: Rahul Gandhi backs protesting students | India News

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed support for students as their protests gained momentum, accusing the BJP of “destroying the future of youth”.
In a statement on X, the opposition leader alleged that the BJP government was undermining the future of India’s youth. Drawing a parallel with the Ekalavyas, Rahul said, “cutting off the thumb of the youth of India just like Ekalavya, destroying their future.”
Rahul criticized the procurement process in the country and said, “Failure in government procurement is a great injustice. First of all, recruitment is not announced. Even if the recruitment is announced, the exams are not held on time. If exams are held, the papers are filtered. And when young people demand justice, their voices are ruthlessly crushed.”

Referring to recent incidents in Madhya Pradesh, he alleged that two students protesting irregularities in the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) examinations were arrested.
“After the recent incidents in UP and Bihar, now two students who were protesting against irregularities in MPPSC in Madhya Pradesh have been jailed. This too when the Prime Minister himself met the students and assured them that their demands would be considered. The BJP government has broken the trust of students and strangled the democratic system,” Rahul said in response to a post by the Madhya Pradesh Congress unit.
Rahul assured the protesting students of his unwavering support. “We are with the students in their fight for their rights. We will not allow the BJP to suppress the voice of the rights of the youth of the country at any cost,” he said.
The protests in Bihar also saw the participation of Purnea MP Pappu Yadav. Earlier today, Yadav supporters staged a ‘rail roko’ protest at Sachiwalay Halt railway station to express solidarity with the students. However, the police quickly intervened and dispersed the crowd.
The aspirants, demonstrating in Patna, are demanding cancellation of the Combined Integrated Competitive (Preliminary) Examination (CCE) 2024 conducted by the BPSC on December 13.
